Dr. Weiss's Secrets & Warnings about the economy -- psst: there's a lot of debt

Originally posted at The Desk of Brian, www.deskofbrian.com: http://sites.google.com/site/thedeskofbrian/state-of-the-nation/drweissssecretswarningsabouttheeconomy--pssttheresalotofdebt

Dr. Martin Weiss published these 11 staggering facts that
every American needs to know — and that every investor won't be able to
succeed without ...

11 startling facts that Obama and Bernanke do
NOT want you to think about

FACT #1:

The official national debt now stands at $12.68 trillion — an amount equal
to about 88.5% of all the goods and services our economy produces in an
entire year.

FACT #2:
Contingent obligations for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid,
veterans, and pensions now stand at an additional $108 trillion over
and above the "official" national debt.

FACT #3:
State, county and local governments are nearly $3 trillion in debt.
Many can't pay and will ultimately demand that Washington assume
responsibility for that debt as well.

FACT #4:
Total federal, state and local government indebtedness now stands at a
mind-blowing $123.6 trillion.

FACT #5:
Last year, Washington added $1.4 trillion to the debt. In this fiscal year,
the Obama administration will add another $1.6 trillion!
FACT #6:
In addition to funding the current trillion-dollar-plus deficits, the U.S.
Treasury must borrow MORE each year to replace bills, notes and bonds that are maturing.
FACT #7:
This record-shattering borrowing by the Treasury has resulted in a Mt.
Everest of Treasury obligations being dumped onto the market, which
naturally depresses bond prices and drives interest rates higher.

FACT #8:
In adesperate attempt to keep interest rates low, the Bernanke Federal
Reserve has created $1.25 trillion out of thin air to buy
mortgage-backed securities ... another $300 billion to buy U.S.
Treasuries ... and yet another $170.6 billion to buy other government
bonds — a total of nearly $1.7 trillion in all.

FACT #9:
From September 10, 2008 to March 10 of this year, Bernanke increased
the nation's monetary base from $850 billion to $2.1 trillion — a 250%
increase in just 18 months.

FACT #10:
Despite this massive money-printing, the yield on the benchmark 10-year
Treasury note has STILL risen by more than one-fifth — from 3.2% to
3.86% — since December.

FACT #11:
Because of this massive money-printing, the U.S. dollar has lost nearly
10% of its value in the past 12 months alone.

The President and the Treasury Department have colluded with the Fed to create economic slavery for our country. On the surface, Democrats present that they are for the "little man" when in fact, they have driven a biggest wedge between the "Haves" and "Have Nots".
More and more people with suffer when the debt reality unravels, leaving multitudes destitute and dependent on government entitlement programs.

As the Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel said: "No crisis should be wasted" so this explosion of poverty, broke retirees, overwhelmed nursing homes, and bankrupt State budgets will allow the Federal government to grab (and hold) more power.

Are you preparing for this economic disaster? Do you even understand what any of this means or do you still have your head in the sand, believing the propaganda that "the economy is recovering", "can't happen in America" or the biggest lie: "The Republicans still have time to fix this."

Obama Now Selling Judgeships for Health Care Votes?

Originally post at DeskofBrian.com: http://sites.google.com/site/thedeskofbrian/state-of-the-nation/obamanowsellingjudgeshipsforhealthcarevotes

It was a dark and stormy night in March as the President hosted the ten House Democrats who voted against healthcare reform. What deals were struck? What agreements were made as President Obama attempts to persuade them to vote yes.

Coincidentally, the White House announced that one of the ten, Jim Matheson, Democrat from Utah, has a brother who will be appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Press release:

“Scott Matheson is a distinguished candidate for the Tenth Circuit court,” President Obama said. “Both his legal and academic credentials are impressive and his commitment to judicial integrity is unwavering. I am honored to nominate this lifelong Utahn to the federal bench.”

Jim Matheson voted against the healthcare reform in July (as part of the Energy and Commerce Committee) and again in November when the House passed the bill.

The President is determined (from March 3): "..I believe the United States Congress owes the American people a final vote on health care reform. We have debated this issue thoroughly, not just for a year, but for decades." and "I will do everything in my power to make the case for reform."

Obama on Scott Matheson:

“Scott Matheson is a distinguished candidate for the Tenth Circuit court, both his legal and academic credentials are impressive and his commitment to judicial integrity is unwavering. I am honored to nominate this lifelong Utahn to the federal bench.”

In February Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) said that the White House offered him a federal job in an effort to dissuade him from challenging Sen. Arlen Specter in the state's Democratic primary.

So is it above the reproach to believe that the day after meeting with the Utah Representative to garner support for health care that the brother is promoted?

Sestak was bribed.

Sounds like Chicago politics to me.

FOX Defending Palin is Asinine

Follow up to date postings of "State of the Nation" on Desk of Brian: Desk of Brian.com

Even while mocking President Obama's obsessive use of a teleprompter, Sarah Palin has notes on her left hand to assist her in a Q&A session after a Tea Party speech.

"Energy, Budget(scratched out) Tax Cuts, Lift American Spirits"

That's it?!?! Palin needs notes for that?

Notes on deficit figures, the latest unemployment data, health care statistics - nope: "lift American spirits" --- apalling.

Of course FOX is defending their prized Presidential candidate, but the most absurd was on FOX & Friends:

Gretchen Carlson: "I think she did it on purpose… ‘Cause I think it’s an exact opposite of reading off the teleprompter, reading off complete script written for you with every word in a sentence. And here she’s just taken crib notes on her hand. It makes it look as if she can just talk off the cuff and that she just jotted down a few couple notes before she went out to give a big, long speech."

Gretchen, of course she DID IT ON PURPOSE! Do you think she let Willow jot down a few suggestions for her Mommy before sending her off to the enormous Tea Party crowd.

Co-host Brian Kilmeade made things worse: "There’s nothing wrong if she had a card, just jot a card down… But to sit there, …do the interview and then look down at her hand, I think that is… like you said Gretchen, before, folksy, absolutely down to earth, I can identify. But if you’re gonna write on your hand, why not just say, ‘Staffer, can you hand me a card?’ And then it would have been OK."

Maybe I'm alienating myself here but I don't want the President to be a co-dependent shill relying on his teleprompter and I don't want Sarah Palin, who can't speak off of the cuff on her core values or principles.

A former Governor, VP candidate, who just spoke on these issues, should NOT need "Budget Cuts"...ugh, sorry, "Tax Cuts" scribbled on her hand to answer ANY question.

This is just insanity.

Hannity used the incident as a chance to chastise the President over his "corpse-men" miscue. So FOX expects the President to write down that the "P silence in Corps" on his right hand (he's left-handed) and "follow the prompter" on his right.

To compound matters, Palin was railing on Obama as a "charismatic" leader who needs a teleprompter just moments earlier, waving around her "lift American spirits" scribble for the world to see. Maybe she can write "hypocrite" on her right hand.

From "Palin holds all the answers in the palm of her hand" to using her "palm pilot" or scribbling notes on her "palm Post-it" Palin just became the target for ridicule from her haters.

This time it's more than deserved, it's truly telling. Palin has revealed the truth: she's an empty suit like most of her peers.

Most Corrupt Politicians of 2009

Original Post on Desk of Brian: State of the Nation by Brandon Jones at DeskofBrian.com

No real surprises on this list.

The same old names just keep showing up over and over again.

#1 - Christopher Dodd, recently retired Senator from Connecticut headlines the list as Dodd continued his shady past with backroom deals with Countrywide, Fannie and Freddie Mac and now, undervalued property in Ireland which is leading to a new investigation.

#2 - Republican John Ensign (pictured here) ranks number two as Judicial Watch site a NY Times article which aptly summarizes the Ensign scandal:

"The Justice Department and the Senate Ethics Committee are expected to conduct preliminary inquiries into whether Senator John Ensign violated federal law or ethics rules as part of an effort to conceal an affair with the wife of an aide."

#3 - Barney Frank: Fannie and Freddie Mac -- nuff said to quote Marvel Comic Books.

#4 - Timothy Geithner's tax evasion and ties to the AIG corruption lands the Treasury Secretary in the top five.

#5 - Eric Holder, the Attorney General arbitrarily decides what to investigate and what to sweep under the rug.

#6 - Jesse Jackson Jr./Roland Burris: How much for the Senate in 2010? Seriously, how much?

#7 - President Obama and #8 - Nancy Pelosi - nothing needs to be added here.

#9 - Recently deceased John Murtha and the PMA seven, a defense lobbyist group that has finally been shut down. Murtha's family was receiving millions along with the PMA earmarks.

#10 - Charles Rangel - has he paid his taxes? That's all I'll say.

The list is hardly shocking. Previously Republicans graced the Top Ten board proving what little "Change" President Obama actually brought to Washington.

What interesting is if you look at the older lists, Judicial Watch did a great job of including stories and corruption that we're still discussing today.

Same corruption, just with different letters after their names.

President vs. Supreme Court & Constitution?

Originally posted on The Desk of Brian, www.DeskofBrian.com at

http://sites.google.com/site/thedeskofbrian/state-of-the-nation/presidentvssupremecourtconstitution

"With all due deference to separation of powers, last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests, including foreign corporations, to spend without limit in our elections."1

Justice Alito mouthing "Not True" met criticisms from Democrats.

"I can't ever recall a president taking a swipe at the Supreme Court like that," said Lucas A. Powe Jr., a Supreme Court expert at the University of Texas law school.2

What should concern us is the flippant comment about circumventing the Constitution:

"This can't be one of those Washington gimmicks that lets us pretend we solved a problem. The commission will have to provide a specific set of solutions by a certain deadline. Now, yesterday, the Senate blocked a bill that would have created this commission. So I'll issue an executive order that will allow us to go forward, because I refuse to pass this problem on to another generation of Americans."1

It's not a question of if, it's already put together as Bloomberg reports. If an executive order gets the President what he wants, then an executive order it shall be.

The language of the two branches are poignantly opposed to one another.

President Obama: "With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics. It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans... We are going to talk with bipartisan congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision."

"The text and purpose of the First Amendment point in the same direction: Congress may not prohibit political speech, even if the speaker is a corporation or union." - Chief Justice John Roberts

This dispute carries across party lines, blurring the intent of Free Speech under the guise of corruption and evil big business. Likewise, the dissenters pretend that the current landscape shields corporations from funding political parties, candidates or ads, but in fact, these entities muddle the process by creating faux foundations to funnel funds to endorse their political preference.

The Supreme Court's decision upheld some of our most basic principles, principles about the freedom to engage in political speech that are incorporated into the Constitution, a document that the critics of this decision seem all to willing to ignore when its requirements don’t fit their political objectives.

Of course, as with Nancy Pelosi, the President seems to think we are "kidding" when we demand our politicians abide by the limits of the Constitution. (see below for Pelosi exchange)

Frankly Mr. President, I'm NOT kidding.

1. Read the entire SOU transcript: Barack Obama - 2010 State of Union address

Pelosi exhange on health care
CNSNews.com: "Madam Speaker, where specifically does the Constitution grant Congress the authority to enact an individual health insurance mandate?"

Pelosi: "Are you serious? Are you serious?"

CNSNews.com: "Yes, yes I am."

Pelosi then shook her head before taking a question from another reporter.

End Doesn't Justify the Means: Obama, the Train & Gay Marriage

Original posting at www.DeskofBrian.com

http://sites.google.com/site/thedeskofbrian/state-of-the-nation/enddoesntjustifythemeansobamathetraingaymarriage

The current political landscape is the arguably the most intrusive in our history. The President marches into Tampa to announce that a high-speed railway will be built and his $8 billion dollars will help make it happen. Meanwhile, on the other coast, a Federal judge will decide whether to overturn the State court ruling and the will of the people on Proposition 8, a ban on the recognition of gay marriage.

Over the last five years or so, the Florida railway amendments and funding proposals have all failed. The lack of interest coupled with the lack of funding have not been salvaged by the President's reallocation of Federal tax revenue.

There is only $2-3 billion available for the project from Florida taxpayers, so the plan is merely halfway funded. Additionally, critics have been vocal that the plan proposes NO station for Lakeland or downtown Orlando leaving many individuals and business disadvantaged.

By the way, that $25 billion dollar price tag is the same figure used in 2004 -- anyone think that's accurate?

It doesn't matter what voters support, the impact on the Florida Department of Transportation, or the unanswered questions of the remaining billions - Obama rides into town with promises, articulates campaign rhetoric and gives a mandate from up high.

Meanwhile, a couple of thousand miles away in California, a US Supreme court stands to undo the California Supreme Court ruling that maintained the validity of Prop 8 and the people's right to determine the legal recognition of a marriage contract.

See the issue is the State's right to recognize a legal binding contract, however it's defined, but this would require an amendment to the state constitution. There is no prevention of entering into a contract, a homosexual marriage, but the state recognition of that contract is what's disputed.

So now the debate turns to blame as supporters are now blaming the failure in California on the religious right and the bigoted voters.

Yes, in California.

The same California that the LA Times, Pew Research Center and others have all proclaimed to be less religious, lax on religion, etc...(compared to the other states) has orchestrated a smear campaign rooted in hatred, bigotry and discrimination. That includes the 53% of Latino voters and 70% of blacks which were more "intolerant" that the 50% of white voters.

As absurd is it sounds, the Supreme Court ruling would undo the State Court, the entire State Constitutional process, the voting process and the voice of the people.

Government intrusion is "okay" if it's something you support.

The railway supporters are thrilled with the President's assistance, but would they have felt this way had President Bush arrived in Florida to fund offshore oil drilling?

Would the citizens of California support a reversal of 2003's failed Prop 54, Racial Privacy Initiative. Under the same guise of prejudices, the Californians have to acknowledge Prop 54 because of judicial ruling undoing over 5.5 million voters.

Californians spent $83 million on the debate which lasted over six months, but Prop 8 failed. The appropriate response would be to adjust the debate, the presentation, address the concerns etc...and reintroduce the amendment.

Just as the President perceives "he knows what is best for us", so goes the Californians supporting a measure for a judge to overturn our constitutional process.

Obama Now Bows to the Japanese

First the Saudi King, now the Japanese Emperor.

This isn't about respect, a half bow like this is a measure of submission to their superior. Does out President realize the US is greatest country on the planet and he doesn't HAVE to bow?

Back in 1994 the NY Times ran an article explaining how President Clinton DID NOT BOW (exactly). This comical effort (here) included the ridiculous comment by Molly Raiser, chief of protocol:

"It was not a bow-bow, if you know what I mean."

If Clinton's head nod, shoulder slump was NOT a "bow-bow" how will the hypocritical left denounce the Obama bend at the waist.

"Presidents don't bow, and Emperors don't toast," one official said. "So this was a little bit like the cultures meeting each other halfway." (same NY Times article 1994)

We have seen the protective media circle their wagons to shield Obama from slings and arrows, so it'll be interesting to see their contrived tactics in action.

Koreans still fighting

It's ashame that we have to go to the foreign press to get the news, but the Telegraph reports how the North and South Korean navies were engaged over sensitive waters.

This is days away from President Obama's tour of Asia. While it'll likely be background noise here in the US, the Obama tour has yielded a $5 billion yearly support check from the Japanese for Afghanistan.

From the Telegraph article: "The skirmish in the Yellow Sea – the first for seven years – left a North Korean patrol vessel "engulfed in flames" as it retreated back across the border under fire, according to the South Korean prime minister, Chung Un-Chan."

There are further details that reveal this was a pretty intense exchange and I'll agree with the article's comment that the North Korean leadership want the Obama visit to have a backdrop of violence and chaos.

The Telegraph also listed a history of these conflicts:

Obama's "Pet Goat" Moment in Crisis

The Ft. Hood tragedy reminded us of the power of the President to lead the country through support, sympathy and compassion. President Obama addressed a conference for OVER 2 MINUTES before getting to the Ft. Hood shooting.

This included a shout out for a "Congressional Medal of Honor" winner (Joe Medicine Crow) -- but that's actually incorrect as well -- it is the Medal of Freedom, but who's keeping score in the Obama Nation.

http://online.worldmag.com/2009/11/06/obamas-response-to-fort-hood/

The suave, super intelligent President makes gaffe after gaffe, but compared to his predecessor, anyone would look smooth and smart.

After the shout out, an applause, praising the "productive conference", maintaining the priority of the conference, recognizing the challenges that lay ahead for Native Americans - he finally mentioned the attack.

2:20.....Two Minutes and Twenty seconds....

If he held up a copy of "The Pet Goat" the circle would have been complete.

The former Senator voted present over a hundred times, can't decided how to handle the advice from his handpicked general in Afghanistan, so it shouldn't surprise any of us that he would fumble this situation.

To me this the real story was NOT the tragedy of the shooting because the motives of Major Hassan will be revealed at a later date: insanity, terrorism or otherwise.

The immediate fact we can observe is the President's inability or trepidation to deal with tragedy and difficult decisions. What the President should have done was say: "Before I get started, let me first speak to the tragedy that is unfolding in Texas as we speak..."

Nope.

Instead our President had a "Pet Goat" moment, playing to his comfort zone as a Community Organizer for nearly 2 and half minutes. Our leader rambled about a conference instead of speaking quickly and directly to the country.

Michael Moore railed on President Bush for reading with the children "My Pet Goat" as the news of 9/11 unfolded. Well, now we'll see if Moore and other extreme Obama supporters will recognize this President's "Pet Goat Moment"

Limbaugh wrong to call Obama salute a photo-op

I'm no Obama fan. Read "State of the Nation" for any length of time and you'll know that. With that said, I think I've been critical and backed up my point of view as fairly as I can.

Rush Limbaugh recently spoke out against Obama who visited Dover Air Force base and was photographed saluting our fallen soldiers.

"It was a photo op precisely because he's having big-time trouble on this whole Afghanistan dithering situation." - Limbaugh

Just unfair.

How or when could the President have shown these soldiers proper respect and it WOULD NOT/COULD NOT be called a photo op?

I don't what's in the President's heart and I'm not going to debate Limbaugh on the "dithering" but sometimes things should just go unsaid. Afghanistan is a mess and well discuseed. The President's efforts at Dover, good intentioned or not, should stand on their own merit.

The Pondering Prez & Illegal Drones?

I guarantee we will not hear or read much about the recent UN attack on America's unmanned drone attacks on terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In the BBC report UN human rights investigator says America needs to "explain the legal basis" for these attacks.

For the article: Mr Alston, the UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions, told the BBC: "My concern is that these drones, these Predators, are being operated in a framework which may well violate international humanitarian law and international human rights law. The onus is really on the government of the United States to reveal more about the ways in which it makes sure that arbitrary executions, extrajudicial executions, are not in fact being carried out through the use of these weapons."

Sounds like language that was thrust at President Bush, so where's the coverage here in the States?

Nowhere and don't expect it.

The Obama administration has the press under control and the "War on FOX" had an amazing effect to CNN, MSNBC and others: don't throw mud on the White House or you won't get the interviews.

So while the President continues his month long pondering over additional troop support for his General in Afghanistan, a car bomb in Pakistan killed 90. Hillary Clinton's visit was marred by the blast and it was reported that her response was:

"I want you to know that this fight is not Pakistan's alone. So this is our struggle as well and we commend the Pakistani military for their courageous fight and we commit to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistani people in your fight for peace and security."

The UN that is critical of the US tactics garnered 6 casualties (and 9 injured)in Kabul as rockets attacked the hotel used as a UN safe house. Some eyewitness testimony was picked up by the BBC as Afghanistan is facing the most violent month to date.

Yes, October is the MOST VIOLENT MONTH since the war began in 2001 -- 55 US Troop deaths this month.

From the ABC News report:

"Meanwhile, the President continues to consult with his advisers and military leaders in reaching a decision on his Afghanistan policy. The President plans to meet with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen on Friday, as he approaches making a final judgment."

Our President "continues to consult", "contemplates", "coming closer to making a decision", "evaluate this process" on and on and on....

Secretary of State said we stand shoulder to shoulder to fight and UN says we are breaking International Law.

Quagmire?

It was easier to declare Swine Flu a national emergency than fight a war to win.

When I was young, probably too young for this analogy, my grandfather was waiting for me to get dressed to go sledding in the snow. I was bundled in layers and layers of clothes, struggling to snap the buttons on my giant parka.

"Are you going to piss or get off the pot?" he yelped from the front seat of the family station wagon.

Well Mr. President, you can keep adding layers of protection from advisers and the press, but at the end of all of this you need piss or get off of the pot.

Racism: Cosby agrees with Carter

Bill Cosby has thrown in his support for Jimmy Carter's racism allegations.

From Cosby's Twitter account: I agree with President Carter that racism is playing a role in recent outbursts against President Obama.

From Cosby's Facebook:

During President Obama’s speech on the status of health care reform, some members of congress engaged in a public display of disrespect. While one Representative hurled the now infamous “you lie” insult at the President, others made their lack of interest known by exhibiting rude behavior such as deliberately yawning and sending text messages.

Various polls prior to the election indicated that between five and ten percent of Americans would never vote for an African American president. That number, of course, only includes those who actually admitted to their prejudice. How many others harbored such feelings but did not respond honestly when asked the question? And how many people oppose Obama’s plan because the President is African American?

In "Birth of a Nation," D.W. Griffith used white actors in black face to portray black legislators as having low intelligence and acting like fools. Today, we have a band of real life congressional fools seemingly bent on blocking any meaningful reform of the health care system. But if we allow even one American to die simply because he or she cannot afford treatment, we are creating a shameful scenario that could aptly be called “Death of a Nation.”

Well, amongst the "various polls" supporting the racism argument is the NY Times who claim the number to be 15%.

I remember asking an Obama supporter why he wasn't ahead of Hillary by a wider margin -- quick response: racism.

Why won't these accusers explain Michael Steele's elevation to chair of the Republican party? Steele is a conservative African-American, so let's see what he had to say:

"This isn't about race. It is about policy. This is a pathetic distraction by Democrats to shift attention away from the president's wildly unpopular government-run health care plan that the American people simply oppose."

"Characterizing Americans' disapproval of President Obama's policies as being based on race is an outrage and a troubling sign about the lengths Democrats will go to disparage all who disagree with them. "

Wow, I'm not a Michael Steele fan, but he's spot on with that response.

I'll close by referring to a piece by Walt Williams from August in which he quotes Rev. Jesse Jackson.

"There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery -- then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved." - Rev. Jesse Jackson

Maybe Cosby is right, 15% of Americans can't support a black man, especially since Jesse Jackson is having some racist thoughts.
